On The Level Youth Diabetes Program
Added Benefit for Young Members Who Have Diabetes
Helping a child learn how to manage diabetes can be a challenge for any
parent. Support is available through the On The Level Youth Diabetes
Program, a free and voluntary mail-only program. It provides
information to our youngest members and their parents about managing
Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes while creating a health-centered lifestyle.
The program is divided into four age-specific groups with printed materials
to match each age level. The information is mailed each month.
Who is Eligible?
On The Level Youth Diabetes Program is available to Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Health Advantage and eligible BlueAdvantage Administrators of Arkansas members.
Program Highlights
- For parents and children from birth to 3 years of age:
Monthly mailings help parents understand current diabetes care as they learn
how to keep their babies and toddlers healthy.
- For parents and children 4 to 6 years of age:
Dina the Diabeetle provides a fun way for a child to explore diabetes
information. Parent-only articles provide important diabetes health
tips.
- For parents and children 7 to 13 years of age:
Cool mailings talk directly to the school-age child about
growing up with diabetes. Parents receive useful diabetes care
tools.

Information written in a teen-friendly style speaks to diabetes concerns while helping teens feel confident about a healthy future. Up-to-date diabetes materials support parents of teens.

Physician Support
Your child’s physician remains the caregiver and makes all medical decisions.
The On The Level Youth Diabetes Program provides tools to work with your physician and his or her care plan for your child.
Waived Deductible on Testing Supplies
Arkansas Blue Cross recognizes the benefits of routine blood
sugar testing for people with diabetes. To encourage our members
with diabetes to continue this important activity, we will waive
the deductible for blood glucose testing supplies (lancets and
testing strips) for Arkansas Blue Cross Blue Shield members who
are currently, or were previously,
enrolled in the On The Level Youth Diabetes Education Program
(for children and adolescents ages 17 and younger) or the adult
Diabetes Health Education Program.
